Portrait JS For Bal Tabarin HR Contact With PictorightJan Sluijters (1881-1957) – together with Hieronymus Bosch and Vincent van Gogh – is one of the three ‘core artists’ from Brabant who regularly pay attention to the Noordbrabants Museum. This great autumn exhibition Jan Sluijters. The wild years show how the artist, as a young man in Paris,

became acquainted with the avant-garde art of that period.
For about 15 years, Sluijters experimented with almost all the new art movements he met in Paris that is essential for his artistry.
In addition to the work of Sluijters, the Noordbrabants Museum also presents a number of works of art from his sources of inspiration and like-minded people such as Kees van Dongen, Georges Braque and Leo Gestel. With this, the earlier work of Sluijters is placed in the context of national and international modern art.

Colorful works
Van Sluijters himself shows a large number of colorful paintings and drawings. Some of them are from private ownership and have therefore rarely been seen publicly. In addition to his work, we also pay attention to his life: who was this man who turned the Dutch art world upside down at the beginning of the 20th century? The exhibition gives a picture of the wild years of Jan Sluijters, years in which he grew to become one of the founders of the new Dutch painting and which proved to be a formative element for his entire painting career.
