is a department that is part of the new administrative region of Nouvelle-Aquitaine. It is located in the southwest of France and is intersected by the rivers Vézère and Dordogne. ………
This department is also often called Périgord, after the former French county that coincided with the territory of the Dordogne. The department is subdivided into four areas, each named after a characteristic color that is common in the area.
Périgord Blanc is located in the center and was named after the white limestone found in the landscape. The castle of Beynac-et-Cazenac is located on a steep limestone rock on the right bank of the river Dordogne. The view from the castle over the valley is breathtaking. In the castle you can see beautiful restored rooms with frescoes from the fourteenth century.
